“Congratulations,” he posted. In another tweet, he added: “Popularity can go down after winning an award. I speak from experience lol.”
Musk held the title ahead of his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter in 2022. He renamed the social media platform X and reduced the number of employees, which many believe contributed to his decline in popularity.
Musk has replaced billions of dollars in advertising with millions of dollars in subscription revenue. He also saddled the platform with about $1.2 billion in annual debt repayments.
Additionally, several major companies halted advertising after he publicly promoted anti-Semitic conspiracy theories. On November 15, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX responded to a post that read: “The Jewish community [sic] has a dialectical hatred of white people claiming that people no longer object to the applications they want That hatred.” wrote that this was “the real truth.”
Disney has long been one of Tesla’s top advertisers, and investors have distanced themselves from it.
Swift shared her Time magazine cover on Twitter, writing: “@samlansky has a beautiful way with words and I’ve enjoyed reading his articles for over a decade.
